Capital Region Man Beats Victim Unconscious, Police Say

A Capital Region man was nabbed for allegedly beating another person unconscious that he did not know.

The incident occurred in Saratoga County around 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 11, in Clifton Park.

According to New York State Police Trooper Stephanie O'Neil, the victim, suffering from multiple visible injuries, went to the State Police headquarters to report the crime.

An investigation determined the victim was in the area of Maxwell Drive when they were allegedly approached by Malik L. Simms, age 19, of Clifton Park, who is unknown to them. 

O'Neil said Simms reportedly struck and kicked the victim until they lost consciousness. The victim was transported by EMS to an area hospital for treatment.

Simms was found walking in the area of the incident and taken into custody. While being taken into custody, Simms resisted and provided false identifying information, O'Neil said.

He was charged with:

  • Assault
  • Resisting arrest
  • Obstructing governmental administration
  • False personation

Simms was released with an appearance ticket returnable to the Clifton Park Town Court on Thursday, Oct. 24.
